The city looks back to a history of more than 1000 years. It´s the cultural as well as economic centre of the so-called “two-valley-region”, referring to the valleys of Elztal and Simonswald.
The most recent of numerous environmental awards is the title “slowcity – city of highest quality of life”. All over the world, Waldkirch is famous for its construction of fair and barrel organs and for its jewel cutting. On the “International Exhibition of Organs”, you could see them all: whether church or barrel organ, orchestrion or merry-go-round organ – everywhere the organs called the tune.
